Venezuela national team is one of the 10 South American countries that participate in the oldest tournament on the continent. A team that is constantly growing and that, year after year, proves to be a tough rival for any other team. Its first participation was in the 1927 CONMEBOL Copa America, in Uruguay.
So far, the team has participated in 18 editions of the CONMEBOL Copa America, with a total of 66 games played and notching up 8 wins, 15 draws and 43 losses.
The country hosted this competition for the first time in 2007, when its team reached the quarterfinals for the first time in its history. On that occasion, the team lost 4-0 against Uruguay national team in 'El Templo Sagrado' stadium.
Four years later, the "Vinotinto" achieved its best place in the history of the CONMEBOL Copa America. In the 2011 Copa America Argentina, the team reached its best position after losing against Peru national team in the 3rd 4th place playoff. It became a very emblematic CONMEBOL Copa America for Venezuela, since they could have reached the final if it hadn't been for the fate of the penalty shootout.
Their best match was played on 17th July, 2011, against Chile national team. It was a historic match for the team led by Cesar Farias, as they finally managed to break through the quarter-final barrier and reached the semifinals for the first time. The players who were responsible for scoring goals that day were the historic defenders of the team: the emblematic Oswaldo Vizcarrondo and the great Gabriel Cichero.
Year after year, the constant growth of the Venezuelan team can be seen. It is a team that faces any rival in the same way and that, little by little, becomes the best version of itself.
