Argentina had a bye on the first day of the tournament and made a spectacular debut by defeating Peru in one of the most thrilling matches of the competition.
Peru took a 2-0 lead after a stunning bicycle kick by David Díaz and a goal from Manco at the start of the second period.
Argentina responded in time, managing to pull one back before halftime (Medero) and equalizing early in the second (Benaducci).
Peru regained the lead with a powerful strike from Vargas. But Argentina fought back once again. Gómez Polatti made two crucial saves (one in the play leading up to the final goal), while Ponzetti's leadership pushed the team forward. The equalizer came from the No. 10, and in the last minute, Benaducci sealed the comeback with his second goal.
Argentina started the tournament with a win and will face Paraguay on Matchday 3, while Peru (coming off two losses) will try to bounce back against Venezuela.
