CONMEBOL Copa América™
  • With 4 points, Canada finishes Group A in second place and advances to the quarterfinals.
  • Only two other Concacaf teams advanced in their first edition: Mexico and Honduras.

June 29, 2024 is in the history books of Canadian football. The national team secured qualification to the Quarterfinals in its first appearance at CONMEBOL Copa América™, after a goalless draw with Chile in the third round of Group A. It's quite a feat for those who play in the oldest national team tournament in the world for the first time in its history. Until then, only two debutant Concacaf teams had managed to advance from the Group Stage in the history of CONMEBOL Copa América™: the first was Mexico, which not only advanced but finished runner-up in the 1993 edition, precisely the first to have Concacaf guests among the participants. Then it was the turn of Honduras, which impressed the entire continent in the 2001 edition, held in Colombia, when it finished in third place.

Canada is the tenth team from outside South America to participate in the tournament. The United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica (these five are also participating in this CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™), Honduras, Haiti, Japan and Qatar have played in the competition at least once. With the end of the Group Stage, Canada awaits the definition of Group B, which will be played this Sunday, July 30: the team travels to Arlington, Texas, for its Quarterfinal match, which will take place at AT&T Stadium on Friday, July 5.
