History of the stadium
Metlife Stadium was opened in 2010 and has capacity for more than 80,000 fans. The stadium's primary use is as home to the New York Jets and New York Giants of the National Football League. Currently, it is the largest professional American football stadium in the country in terms of seating capacity. The venue will also host the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, when the tournament is held in the United States in two years. This year, the stadium will host two group matches as well as a semi-final match during the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™.
Fans will also remember that MetLife Stadium hosted the final of the CONMEBOL Copa América Centenario 2016™, when Chile defeated Argentina in penalty kicks to win their second title. This year, Chile and Argentina return to East Rutherford to play one of the two group stage matches of the tournament that will be held at the stadium.
