- Lozano has been in charge of El Tri since 2023
- His debut match in CONMEBOL Copa América™ as the coach of Mexico will be against Jamaica on Saturday, June 22 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
The Mexican National Team is looking for a spark, and El Tri fans hope that Jamie (Jimmy) Lozano will be the one to find it during this year's CONMEBOL Copa América™.
After the World Cup, led by Argentine Gerardo Martino, his compatriot Diego Cocca took charge of El Tri in search of better results.
However, Cocca lasted only seven games after a 3-0 loss to the United States in the 2023 CONCACAF Nations League Semifinals, which was when Lozano was named interim coach, just before the CONCACAF Gold Cup began. Despite the difficult circumstances, he led Mexico to the final, where they beat Panama 1-0. Lozano was then promoted from interim coach to full-time head coach, and was tasked with leading his country into CONMEBOL Copa América™ the following year.
Lozano himself made 34 appearances for the Mexican National Team in his playing days, where he spent most of his career at UNAM and Cruz Azul in Liga MX.
His coaching career began with the UNAM academy teams before moving to Querétaro, where he would rise through the ranks to reach the position of head coach.
His next stop would be a four-year stint as Mexico U23 coach before taking charge of Necaxa in 2022 for a short period before departing later that year. Now, in his current position as leader of his country's national team, Lozano wants to prove that he is the right man to lead El Tri to the next level. Mexico has an incredible history in this tournament, being the only guest to reach a final: they did so in 1993 and 2001.
