Following another unforgettable edition of CONMEBOL Copa América™, the stars of the tournament have returned to their clubs and some have earned a move in the transfer market. Here is a list of confirmed transfers of some of the tournament’s biggest stars.
Julian Alvarez (Argentina)
Manchester City to Atletico Madrid:
The CONMEBOL Copa América™ and World Cup champion will be trading the Northwest of England for the capital of Spain this season. After scoring 36 goals in two seasons for Premier League champions Manchester City, the Argentina will try his hand with Atletico Madrid. Alvarez enjoyed a CONMEBOL Copa América™ this year, scoring two goals and helping his country win the tournament. He also participated in the Paris Olympics ahead of the club season.
Endrick (Brazil)
Palmerias to Real Madrid
Brazil’s newest great hope turned 18-years-old and then completed his move to the current UEFA Champions League winners. The much hyped attacker played 44 Brazilian league matches for Palmerias, making his debut at 16 years old. Endrick made his tournament debut for his country at CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ and would go on to make four appearances during the tournament.
Willian Pacho (Ecuador)
Eintracht Frankfurt to Paris Saint-Germain
Following one great season at Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga, Pacho is making the move to French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain. The center back started all four of Ecuador’s matches at CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ including helping his country earn a shutout against Mexico in their final Group Stage match. Pacho made a name for himself at Independiente del Valle in his home country before moving to Royal Antwerp in Belgium for one and a half seasons. His impressive display in Belgium earned him a move to Frankfurt and now following this year’s continental tournament, he’s headed to PSG.
Ben Brenton Diaz (Chile)
Villareal to Southampton
The England born Chilean is headed back to the country of his birth, leaving Villareal to join newly promoted Premier League side Southampton. Diaz was primarily used as a sub during Chile’s latest CONMEBOL Copa América™ campaign that finished following competitive Group Stage matches against Champions Argentina, Semi-Finalist Canada and Peru. The attacker enjoyed the best moments of his career so far with Blackburn Rovers in the English Championship and will look to regain his form on England’s south coast with Southampton.
Ismael Kone (Canada)
Watford to Marseille
One of Canada’s many breakout stars at CONMEBOL Copa América™, Ismeal Kone caught the eye of new Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi who secured his signature after this year’s continental tournament. Kone played in five of Canada’s six matches during this year’s tournament, scoring one goal from midfield. Kone played one and a half seasons for Watford in England’s second division before earning a move to France ahead of this year’s club season.
Guido Rodriguez (Argentina)
Real Betis to West Ham United
Guido Rodriguez is linking back up with former Club America teammate and fellow CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ participant Edson Alvarez in East London, joining West Ham United on a free transfer from Real Betis. Rodriguez made one appearance for champions Argentina at this year’s tournament, after making six appearances at the 2021 edition of the tournament. The midfielder proved to be an important player for his former club Real Betis, making 173 La Liga appearances and helping the Spanish club win the Copa del Rey for the first time since 2005 in 2022.
Bobby De Cordova-Reid (Jamaica)
Fulham to Leicester City (Free Transfer)
Jamaica’s captain Bobby De Cordova-Reid is making the move up north, leaving Fulham for newly promoted Premier League side Leicester City. De Cordova-Reid enjoyed an impressive CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ with Jamaica, starting two of his country’s three matches in the competition. The midfielder had spent five seasons in West London with Fulham, helping the Cottagers get promoted back to the Premier League in 2022. He’ll now look to put his experience and leadership to use with Leciester City as the Foxes will try to cement their place back in England’s top flight.
Douglas Luiz (Brazil)
Aston Villa to Juventus
After establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders with Aston Villa, Douglas Luiz will now be playing his trade in Seria A with Juventus. Luiz spent five seasons in Birmingham with Villa, helping them reach an impressive fourth place in the Premeir League last season. The midfielder made three appearances for Brazil at CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ and looks to be an important player for Canarinho going forward.
