Colombia enjoyed a remarkable 2024, returning to a CONMEBOL Copa América™ final after more than 20 years and securing a spot in the World Cup qualification standings. Their final record was 16 matches played, with 10 wins, two draws, and four losses.


Colombia Shines in the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™


Néstor Lorenzo's team excelled in the United States: they finished first in Group D with victories against Paraguay (2-1) and Costa Rica (3-0), as well as a draw with Brazil (1-1).


In the Quarterfinals, they crushed Panama 5-0, and in the Semifinals, they edged Uruguay 1-0. They fell in the tournament's final to Argentina, losing 1-0 in extra time.


Colombia, which had not reached a CONMEBOL Copa América™ final since 2001, was the tournament's highest-scoring team (12 goals) and featured the Best Player of the Tournament, James Rodríguez, who also set the record for most assists in a single CONMEBOL Copa América™.


The Longest Unbeaten Streak in Their History


Colombia extended their unbeaten streak to 28 matches, the longest in their history. This streak began in 2022 and lasted until the final of the CONMEBOL Copa América™.

The end of the year was less favorable for Lorenzo's team in the South American Qualifiers. They managed two wins, one draw, and three losses. Nonetheless, they remain in fourth place (19 points), holding a direct qualification spot for the 2026 World Cup.

Colombia finished the year with 33 goals, tying with Argentina as CONMEBOL's highest-scoring team for the season. Luis Díaz stood out, scoring five goals, two of which came in the CONMEBOL Copa América™, against Costa Rica and Panama.
